When it comes to reflect about her style, Lizzi London says that it is all about details and compares her work to Salvador Dali. “I have always been fascinated by Salvador Dali. When you look briefly at his art, you see the overall picture which is beautiful but when you look closer, you understand what it is all about and can appreciate every details,” the Vietnamese-born, London-raised, US-based designer tells MRD.
Mastering the art of detailing, our featured designer works with any kind of fabrics. By understanding the needs of each individual’s personality and body shapes, Lizzi customizes designs and constructs each creation to one of a kind piece of clothing. “It is not just about the body but mostly about femininity and confidence,” she says. With the right amount of elaboration for ready-to-wear pieces, and a touch of romantism by using lace, silk, and chiffon, Lizzi’s dresses and gown are simply breathtaking. MRD also love her tendency to create theatrical key pieces for runways…don’t this make you remember Alexander McQueen?
Studying at the renowned London College of Fashion where she graduated at the age of 20, Lizzi London never stopped pursuing her dream. “Attending fashion school and being a pattern-maker for a German designer in London truly sparked an interest for fashion and made me came out of my shell,” she said. Her first experience as a fashion designer was for a charity fashion show in Houston,Texas: “I helped a friend for the HOPE initiative fashion show. This was the first time I would create outfits for a runway so I bought five yard of $5 fabric, and gave myself a challenge.” Despite her difficult financial situation, living out of her suitcase, and working from small rooms, drawing and crafting everything by hand, the young determined artist successfully won the challenge. Since then, it is a success story.
“My collections are the culmination of 7 years of work and contribution with many professionals and artists showcasing over 70 shows across numerous American cities including Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, New York City, Seattle, and Washington DC,” says the now 27 year old designer.
Our rising star continued, “I hope to inspire others to do what they love and never give up there dreams.” For the future, Lizzi will be focusing on the business side of her fashion label. On the short-term, she is working on a larger RTW collection, one bikini line for 2013, and the launch of her website and e-boutique.
Her collection is coming soon on MRD website. It’s a rendez-vous!
